There isn't much that surprises me these days, but there is still plenty that leaves me filled with anger and disgust. In a story on WIRED it was reported that someone or some people maliciously posted links on an epilepsy support message board that brought up images of flickering lights. This strobe light effect can cause seizures or migraines in people with epilepsy. This is a horrible and despicable act. I don't support torture, but would find it difficult to protest torturing the perpetrators of this evil. I don't know if these people can be caught or if there is even anything they can be charged with, but something should be done about it. It's bad enough to try and cause someone to have a seizure, but what if that seizure resulted in a fall that caused serious injury or death? These sick and twisted people put the lives of others in jeopardy and should face some kind of consequence.

I must confess that this story touches me on a personal level. I have a disabled son who has occasional seizures related to his disability. I have been dealing with it for over ten years and am still torn up inside watching my child endure a seizure. It is a horrible thing and I can't understand why someone would want to cause it to intentionally happen. I am not one who subscribes to the theory that the world is going to hell in a hand basket, but I am concerned about the direction of society. The people who caused this are rotten, but so are the people that know who did this and chose to do nothing about it. This Presidential election has brought much talk about change in government, but it is apparent that we must also have a conversation about change in society.
