On Reverend Wright

I've been waiting to weigh in on the Reverend Wright issue until I received more facts, but it doesn't appear they will be coming. All I have is a handful of video clips and very little other information to go on. As usual, the news media only gives us the information that will create controversy and stir up emotions. Reverend Wright delivered sermons for over thirty years, even if he only did one a week for thirty years that would be over 1,500 sermons. Surely he must have said some positive things during that time. The things the Reverend said in the video clips are definitely deplorable and show him at his worst, but shouldn't a responsible media also show him at his best? I hear very little about any good the Reverend has done and have seen no video clips of him saying anything uplifting. If he hasn't done anything positive, this is information I need. Were deplorable comments made every week? What percentage of his sermons contained this kind of speech? It is hard to pass judgment on any person by just showing a few clips of him or her at their worst. I usually have to check several media sources to get enough facts, but they have all failed to give enough information to make a judgment on this issue.

Since there is very little to go on except the video clips, we must examine them closer. Sometimes we need to go beyond what people are saying and listen to what they are telling us. It's like that classic line that people use when ending a relationship, "I love you, but I'm not in love with you". Usually what they really mean is "I still have feelings for you, but I don't want to work at this relationship anymore". In Reverend Wright's video clips, I see a man who is telling us that he is angry at his country for wrongs that have been done to people of his race. It is when we are angry that we say the most awful and regrettable things. This certainly doesn't excuse Reverend Wright, but it does tell us something. After all, there is a big difference between being angry at your country and hating it.

The are some people who seem to be having a field day with this issue. I am trying to figure out where they are going with it. Between the Wright video clips and the questioning of Obama's patriotism, what is it that these people are trying to say? Do they believe that Barack Obama has a plan to destroy America and create a new society that enslaves the whites? This is absolutely insane, these people sound like the 9/11 conspiracy theorists. Just as the 9/11 people are Bush haters these people are becoming the Obama haters. They cannot show that their candidate is better, so all they can do is try to scare people into not voting for Barack Obama. And I'm sure they'll have some success, even the 9/11 conspiracy theorists managed to convince a few.
