Now That McCain is the Nominee
Before the Republican Primary was decided there were many people who claim to be true conservatives that said there was no way they would vote for John McCain. These people talked about staying true to conservative principles and were willing to suffer defeat in order to send a message that their party needs to change. Now that John McCain is the nominee, these people seem to have disappeared. The talk of restoring conservative principles has faded away and been replaced with talk of getting behind John McCain. I would actually have great admiration for someone who was willing to stick to their principles, but it appears that people were just speaking emotionally and didn't really think before speaking. The truth is that no matter who was the nominee, the loyal Republicans would get behind him.
The Democratic party is no different. We are now hearing talk about a divided party, but once the nominee is chosen, all the loyal democrats will get behind him or her. For all the loyal party people it is not about selecting the best President, but about beating the other side. These people can talk all the trash they want, but most will support their party's nominee. The party loyalists need to keep their emotions in check and think before speaking. Of course, it would be nice if all the voters kept their emotions in check and thought before voting. This way we might actually find ourselves electing the best person for the job.
