I hate to break the news to the Democrats, but the dream ticket is only a dream to them. If Obama were to put Clinton on the ticket as VP it might even be a dream ticket for the Republicans, but for many independents like myself, any combination of the two is a nightmare. I believe Obama would lose a majority of his independent support and virtually all of his Republican support if he took Clinton as his Vice President. It would also be a gift to the Republicans who will rally around McCain if Hillary is on the ticket. If Barack Obama is the nominee, not only does he not need her, but I think Hillary would hurt his chances of winning.
On the flip side, if Clinton is the nominee, she probably would need him. Again, this ticket would lose most of Obama's independent vote and all of the Republican vote. And again with Hillary on the ticket, especially as the nominee, the Republicans would rally around John McCain. The Democrats who support this dream ticket represent about the same number of Republicans who think that George Bush is doing a good job. And like his approval numbers, only about thirty percent of all Americans would like this dream ticket. If the Democrats are dreaming about winning the Presidency, they better wake up, take the dream ticket and burn it.
