Attacking Iran

There has been a lot of talk lately about the possibility of war with Iran. Of course the primary reason is to prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons. I find this frustrating because it was predicted that invading Iraq would cause countries like Iran to speed up their nuclear weapons programs. I have to wonder, had we not invaded Iraq would we be talking about the possibility of attacking Iran?

I also have to wonder is it even possible to bomb Iran and successfully disrupt their nuclear weapons program? I am sure they have considered the possibility that some nation might try to stop them. I've heard some analysts say that the nuclear weapons program facilities are most likely buried far below ground and even our strongest bombs would be ineffective.

Then there is the cost. Can we really afford to be engaged in another military conflict? Some analysts say it would only be air strikes using limited military resources. It is possible that the air strikes could escalate into something bigger. Remember, Iraq was supposed to end quickly and the Iraqi oil was supposed to pay for the war. Neither of these things happened so I find it hard to believe an attack on Iran would be short and inexpensive.

I know we should try to stop nations like this from having nuclear weapons, but it doesn't seem like the rest of the world  has the same agenda. If the whole world was united against Iran on this matter it would be easily resolved. The fact that some nations don't seem to care leads me to believe we should be cautious about attacking Iran. It is possible that we may have far more to lose than we might gain.

I believe that until we become less dependent on forein oil supplies, we will always be embroiled in something in the middle east. We need to start spending major money on an alternate energy source. Right now, we are at their mercy! I also think it doesn't help that most people don't care about things that they don't think effect them on a daily basis. The "ostrich" behavior of sticking our heads in the sand is definitely catching up to us as a nation!

I don't think investing money in an alternate energy source is the problem. The death of the electric car indicates there are far bigger problems, but you are correct we are at their mercy. The "ostrich" behavior you speak of sounds like a nice way of saying self-absorption. The fact that we have become a self-absorbed society is what's catching up with us.
